the snia board of directors maintains the legal and fiduciary responsibility for the association. it consists of 10 seats elected by the snia members and 3 seats that may be appointed by the board. the individuals you see listed below have agreed to give their time and talent to the snia for 1 or 2-year terms. the snia board meets face to face at least 4 times per year, and addresses organizational issues such as strategic planning, membership development, marketing and public relations, technical output, operational planning, and more. the snia board is charged with oversight of the organization's vision and mission, and ensures that tangible value accrues to member companies.

Jim Williams

jim williams is senior principal product manager for oracle corporation. a 37-year industry veteran focusing on management software for large-scale data and storage systems. in the summer of 2000, jim was one of the founding development team members for automatic storage management, bringing the vision of asm to fruition. he is currently the asm product manager and his storage industry background helps make this product the preferred storage management for oracle databases worldwide. specific areas of contribution include methods of storage access optimization, achieving end-to-end data integrity, and strategies for integrating oracle’s storage management stack in customer’s environments.

jim was an early snia member and believer in the value and opportunity that snia brings to snia members and the storage industry as a whole. he has served on snia’s technical council, presented at their storage developers conferences, led hands-on lab workshops, founder and chair of the data integrity working group. as a board member, he would bring both experience and excitement for assisting snia’s membership as the industry embraces fundamental changes including sold-state storage in the enterprise, software defined storage, and cloud computing.

prior experiences include the role of product architecture in amdahl’s storage product group. his most recent responsibly at amdahl was directing and advising on the intersection between storage management and enterprise-class storage array products. jim’s career at amdahl spanned 17 years beginning in the early 80’s and included working in their mainframe development.

an industry veteran with about 24 years in the semiconductor industry, sue amarin graduated with a bsee degree from san jose state university in 1993 and worked as an analog design engineer at intel, designing plls, io-buffers, srams, circuits that were used on the pentium class chipsets throughout the 90s and early 2000s. sue was an active member of jedec for many years, advancing dram technology and enabling its adoption in the market place, all the way from ddr1-266 through ddr4. while at jedec, she coauthored the ddr2 specification. in 2010 sue graduated with an mba from tulane university, co-founded an oil and gas services business which is still thriving, and then joined micron as a business development manager. her current focus has been on storage and flash technologies in the capacity of a technology evangelist that works closely with customers on flash adoption and internally on focusing the products to solve customer workload issues.

over his career, wayne m. adams was a senior technologist and director of standards within the office of the cto at emc, technical alliances partner manager, and a manager of product managers for its portfolio of srm products. prior to emc, wayne was responsible for product marketing and business development for several strategic software and hardware products at digital equipment corporation. he started his high-tech career at eastman kodak as a system designer of real-time control systems.

richelle has been engaged with industry standards initiatives with snia and dmtf for many years. she served as the snia technical council chair and has been engaged across a breadth of technologies ranging from storage management, to solid state storage, cloud, and green storage. she is co-chair of the storage management initiative and leads the ssm technical work group developing the swordfish scalable storage management api.

jim pappas is the director of technology initiatives in intel’s data center group.   in this role, jim is responsible to establish broad industry ecosystems that comply with new technologies in the areas of enterprise i/o, energy efficient computing, and solid state storage.   jim has founded, or served on several organizations in these areas including: pci special interest group, storage networking industry association (snia), infiniband trade association (ibta), open fabrics alliance (ofa), the green grid, distributed management task force (dmtf) and several emerging initiatives in his newest focus area of solid state storage.

bill also is vice chair of the incits t10, scsi storage interfaces technical committee, secretary of the incits t13, at attachment technical committee, and editor of scsi block commands – 4 (sbc-4). previous positions within the storage community include vice chair of incits t11.3, fibre channel interconnection schemes, secretary incits t11, fibre channel interfaces technical committee, and various editor positions within the fibre channel standards community. william has led fibre channel interoperability events for over 17 years, and participated in the snia interoperability lab in the early 2000’s.

sw worth is a former sr. program manager at microsoft, and an elected member of the snia board of directors. from 2002 through 2006 he was the worldwide lead for the snia tutorials. before joining microsoft in late 2003, sw was technical marketing manager at crossroads systems. from 1991-1999 he was an internal it consultant with a large integrated electric and gas utility in the northeastern united states. he has a background in environmental engineering, and worked in paper mills in several u.s. states and in france.
